The Capital Area Music Association (CAMA) is a community choral arts organization with emphasis on the music of African American Composers and African American culture. The focus and goal for excellence in the development and presentation of sacred and secular music as well as music education through our scholarship fund continues to be the impetus of presentations and activities sponsored by CAMA.
Nia Elain Marie Alsop
Actor
Nia Elaine Marie Alsop was born in Baltimore, MD, on March 2, 2004, but has lived in Washington DC since 2005. She gravitated towards the performing arts at an early age and her parents recognized her singing ability at her 6th birthday
when she sang back her reply to the song, “How old are you?” With the perfectly pitched, “I’m siiiiixxx years old.” Since then, she has spent six summers at the Washington DC Theatre Lab studying drama and musical theatre. In summer
2021, she portrayed “older Sandra” in the Theatre Lab’s production of “Big Fish.” She has also worked closely with the Washington, DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. for several years. In June 2022, Ms. Alsop graduated with Honors from the vocal department at Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She has won several vocal awards, including two first place awards in the Omega Psi Phi Talent Hunt Competition (Iota Mu Mu Chapter). This fall, she will be heading to the Manhattan School of Music to study Musical Theatre. Instagram: @niasw0rld
